How the birthstone finder works
Three things are commonly tied to when you were born: a birthstone and a birth flower, both linked to your birth month, and your zodiac sign, which is linked to the day as well. This finder reads your birth date and looks each one up for you.
The birthstone and birth flower depend only on the month, so choosing a month is enough for those two. The Western zodiac sign is different: its boundaries fall in the middle of months — for example a 22 September birthday is Virgo, but 23 September is already Libra. That is why picking the exact day matters, and why a month on its own can span two signs.
Reference note: this is light reference and entertainment content. Birthstone lists vary by country; this finder uses the common modern US list and the standard Western (tropical) zodiac date ranges.

Frequently asked questions
- What is my birthstone?
- Your birthstone is the gem traditionally linked to your birth month. Enter your birth date above and the finder shows it — on the common modern US list, September is the sapphire.
- What is the birthstone for September?
- September's birthstone is the sapphire. The full list is Garnet (Jan), Amethyst (Feb), Aquamarine (Mar), Diamond (Apr), Emerald (May), Pearl (Jun), Ruby (Jul), Peridot (Aug), Sapphire (Sep), Opal (Oct), Topaz (Nov) and Turquoise (Dec).
- What is a birth flower?
- A birth flower is a bloom traditionally associated with your birth month, much like a birthstone — for example June's is the rose and September's is the aster.
- What's the difference between birthstone and zodiac?
- A birthstone follows your birth month, while your zodiac sign follows the Sun's position and uses date ranges that cross between months — so two people born the same month can have different signs.
- What is my zodiac sign?
- Your Western zodiac sign depends on the day, not just the month. Enter your full birth date and the finder maps it to one of the twelve signs from Aries to Pisces.
- Are birthstones the same in every country?
- No — birthstone lists vary by country and tradition, and some months have more than one accepted stone. This finder uses the common modern US list.
