How this zodiac calculator works
Your Western, or tropical, zodiac sign is decided purely by the calendar — the day and month you were born. The year is split into twelve segments, each named for a constellation, and your birthday falls into exactly one of them. This tool takes your birth date, matches it to the standard date range, and shows the sign's name and glyph, its element, its ruling planet and the span of dates it covers.
It also reports your Chinese zodiac animal. The Chinese zodiac runs on a repeating 12-year cycle — Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig — assigned by birth year. One caveat: the Chinese year begins at the lunar new year, which lands in late January or February, so a birthday in those early weeks can belong to the previous year's animal. The tool flags this so you can double-check against a lunar-new-year date for that year.
