How this anniversary calculator works
An anniversary is the yearly return of a date that mattered — the day you married, the day you met, or the day you started a job. This calculator measures the gap between that start date and a chosen "as of" date (today by default) and breaks it into whole years, months and days.
To stay calendar-accurate, it counts complete years first, then the remaining complete months, then the leftover days. If the day-of-month on the as-of date is earlier than your start day, the last month is not yet complete, so the tool borrows days from the previous calendar month — which is why a result can read, say, "24 years, 11 months, 28 days" rather than a rounded figure. It then counts the days until your next anniversary, tells you which number it will be, and lists the traditional gift for the milestones coming up.
The traditional gift list below assigns a material to every year through 15, then to milestone years afterwards. The calculator highlights the gift for your most recent milestone when it lands on one of these years.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I calculate how long I've been married/together?
- Count the complete years between your start date and today, then the remaining whole months, then the leftover days. If today's day-of-month is earlier than your start day, borrow days from the previous calendar month so the result stays accurate.
- What is the traditional gift for each anniversary?
- Each year has a set material: year 1 is paper, 5 is wood, 10 is tin, 15 is crystal, 20 is china, 25 is silver, 30 is pearl, 40 is ruby, 50 is gold and 60 is diamond, with a named gift for every year up to 15 and for each milestone after.
- What is the 25th / 50th anniversary?
- The 25th wedding anniversary is the silver anniversary and the 50th is the golden anniversary — the two most celebrated milestones, marked with silver and gold gifts.
- When is my next anniversary?
- It is the next time your original month and day come around. The calculator counts the days until that date and tells you which numbered anniversary it will be.
- How many days have we been together?
- It is the number of whole days between your start date and today. The tool shows that running total along with the equivalent number of weeks.
- What are modern vs traditional anniversary gifts?
- Traditional gifts come from the older lists where each year has a set material such as paper, wood or silver. Modern lists substitute contemporary items — for example clocks or watches — so couples can pick from whichever list they prefer.
